Ayubowan! Welcome to Sri Lanka. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6 pm this evening. If you

surrounding countryside is also perfect to explore on a bicycle (which you can rent with help from hotel reception).
Tonight, join your trip leader and group for a welcome dinner.
Included Activities:
Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant
Arrival Transfer on a group basis
Accommodation:
Jetwing Sea Hotel Negombo or similar
Drive to Wilpattu this morning, visiting Anawilundawa Bird Sanctuary on the way. Anawilundawa is unique
because it borders three vastly different ecosystems – the coast, the mangroves and the freshwater tanks. This
makes it one of the six RAMSAR Wetlands in Sri Lanka and a favourable nesting and breeding ground for hundreds
of species of birds. Some of the species found here include herons, open-bills, great cormorants, white ibis, egrets,
stalks, pheasant-tailed jacnas and the purple swamp hen. A total of 20 species of mammals have been recorded
here, too, including the rusty-spotted cat, the fishing cat, the Indian otter, the slender loris, the toque monkey
and 74 species of butterflies. Continue to Wilpattu and when you arrive, set out for an evening safari in the
national park. This thick, dry jungle features floodplain lakes and boasts an impressive variety of flora in the huge
expanses of forest. Look out for deer, elephants, wild boar, sloth bears and leopards.
Included Activities:
▪ Anawilundawa – Bird Sanctuary
▪ Wilpattu National Park – Evening 4×4 Safari
Special information
Your travel time today will be approximately 3.5 hours.
Accommodation
Permanent Tented Camp (with facilities) or similar
Set off after breakfast this morning for Dambulla. On the way, visit the Vessagiriya Complex – where 500 monks
lived during the reign of the Anuradhapura kingdom. Explore the caves and then carry on to Minneriya National
Park for an afternoon safari. Home to Sri Lankan elephants, Minneriya is said to be the best national park in the
world for spotting large herds in their natural habitat. Tonight, you’ll drive to Dambulla for a free evening to rest and
recharge.
Included Activities:
▪ Anuradhapura – Vessagiriya Complex Guided Tour
▪ Minneriya National Park – Afternoon 4×4 Safari
Accommodation:
Habarana Village by Cinnamon or similar
Beat the heat with an early wake-up this morning and head to Sigiriya – this ruined fortress is one of Sri Lanka’s
most famous sights and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Those who make it to the top will be rewarded with epic
views. This is also a popular spot for birdlife, due to the surrounding forests. Here, you’ll also learn about the
Intrepid Foundation partner Zero Plastic – which works in this area to eliminate single-use plastic, educating local
communities on sustainability practices and limiting the impact of plastic in and around Sigiriya.
After exploring, you’ll head back to your hotel for a late breakfast. After recharging (nap, anyone?), head to Kandy.
Late afternoon, visit the famous Temple of the Tooth Relic. Located in the heart of town, this is the most important
shrine in the country, housing a relic of a tooth of Buddha taken from his funeral pyre. Arrive in time and you may
have the chance to witness the pooja – a small ceremony of reverence involving drummers and dancers.
Included Activities:
Sigiriya Rock Fortress
Kandy Temple of Tooth Relic
Special information:
Make sure you’re wearing sturdy footwear today, as the climb to the top of Sigiriya is a very steep climb with some
uneven slopes. Those unable to climb to the top can explore the gardens at the base of the rock, where you can
still get some fantastic photos of the fortress from below.
Accommodation:
Victoria Golf Resort Digana or similar
This morning enjoy the Araliya Trail, a 3 kilometers walk which will take approximately 2 hours for exploration.
This trail takes you through the outskirts of the golf course and into a secondary forest to a clearing area that
features a viewpoint named the “Aralia Deck”. This viewpoint offers trekkers a splendid panoramic view of the
Victoria Reservoir and it certainly is the highlight of the whole excursion.
Included Activities:
▪ Nature Trail in the morning
▪ Cooking Demo followed by Dinner
Accommodation:
Victoria Golf Resort Digana or similar
Have your camera at the ready and take a scenic train journey into the highlands to Bandarawela. Journey
past waterfalls, villages and up through the mountains on the way to this town in the cool highlands, once popular
with British plantation managers. Look down over a sweeping vista filled with bright green tea bushes and
vegetable gardens.
Included Activities:
▪ Scenic Train Journey from Kandy to Bandarawela
Special information
Today’s total travel time is approximately 7 hours.
Accommodation:
Orient Hotel Bandarawela or similar
After a hearty breakfast and 8.30 am checkout, drive to Udawalawe National Park (approximately 3 hours). This
park has an amazing array of animal and birdlife, with more herds of wild elephants than anywhere else in Sri
Lanka. Following lunch, hop in a jeep for a safari inside the park. Other wildlife regularly spotted here includes
macaques and larger monkeys, spotted deer, crocodiles and sometimes even leopards. This is a real safari
experience, nothing like a zoo or safari park – truly an adventure for all ages! Check into the hotel at around 6 pm
after a full day of adventure.
Included Activities:
• Udawalawe National Park – Afternoon Wildlife Safari
Accommodation:
Kalus Hideaway Udawalawe or similar
After a scrumptious breakfast proceed to Tangalle. Check in to the hotel and in the evening, you’ll make the drive
to Rekawa, where you’ll spend the night. As the sun goes down, you’ll head out to the beach with your group to
look for nesting turtles.
Included Activities:
▪ Visit Rekawa Turtle Conservation Centre
Special information:
When visiting the Rekawa Turtle Conservation Project, you’ll use infrared glasses, and no flashlights or other
extreme lights will be permitted. You’ll keep a safe distance from the turtles, so as not to disturb them.
The turtles set their own schedules and, depending on tides, may nest any time between about 8pm and 4am
(they prefer to nest at high tide). Your Leader will let you know when you should be ready to head out.
Accommodation:
Sooriya Resort & Spa Tangalle or similar
